It all began when…

Bridger Backcountry Llamas is located in southwestern Montana in the lovely Gallatin Valley. Known by the native people as “the valley of flowers”, it was reverred and considered sacred. Come visit, and its easy to see why. We bought our place in 2003 and our fifty acre operation is divided between our home place and our packer pasture.

Fortunately for us, the Gallatin Valley is also ideally suited for pack llamas. We have a montane, semi arid climate with temperate summers and bitter cold winters. These factors equate to almost no endemic parasites or biting insects on our place. Also our land has fertile valley soil with just enough rock to wear nails and toughen pads. With irrigated sweetgrass pastures, our local hay is renowned for its quality. These factors help us consistently produce large healthy animals.

We began breeding Llamas a decade ago to produce packers for the backcountry and help preserve the integrity of the westerns pack lines. Our herd is a balanced mix of many of the major lineages. We are also a founding member of the Montana Ccara Cooperative and a sit on the board of the North American Ccara Association.

The Montana Ccara Co operative is comprised of a small group of like minded llama packers devoted to preserving these animals. Our membership includes 4 members and 60 llamas. This collective allows us to share resources, genetics, support, and ideas. Our members are
